Return to T Ching Classics: Tea and Hair
Having healthy and beautiful hair is a priority for millions of people all around the world, and most individuals won’t hesitate to spend money on salon treatments or expensive shampoos to ensure that their hair is in peak condition. In fact, a recent survey has shown that getting a good haircut or hair treatment is a priority among the majority of Americans, regardless of income. But as genetics, stress, and environmental factors can affect the state of our hair, it’s important to find a holistic way to heal and improve hair health from within. Apart from eating a balanced diet, studies have shown that green tea can also help to promote hair health in various ways. Find out all the ways that green tea can help you get thick and lustrous hair.

Strengthen and Moisturize Hair
Regular exposure to sunlight and using heat-generating styling appliances can result in having dry and brittle hair. To hydrate and strengthen your locks, try drinking green tea. In a study in which participants drank a liter of green tea everyday for three weeks, findings revealed that there was a marked improvement in skin hydration and elasticity due to the presence of polyphenols in the tea. Since hair growth is related to proper nutrient delivery to the skin, this indicates that consuming green tea will not only benefit your skin, but it may also help to improve lackluster hair and strengthen brittle strands. Other natural ingredients that can be used to improve the moisture and vitality of hair include coconut oil, lemon juice, and coffee. Apart from drinking green tea, you can also make a green tea-infused conditioner to moisturize your hair without weighing it down. Simply mix 10 ounces of freshly brewed green tea with 4 ounces of glycerine, and place the mixture in a jar. To use, massage onto hair and leave it in for five minutes before rinsing with cool water.
Reduce Hair Loss
Hair loss is one of the most common hair problems, and over 20 million women and 35 million men experience some form of hair loss. For many individuals, having thinning hair or hair loss can cause depression and anxiety, and it can also lead to having poor self esteem. Undergoing treatments to alleviate the condition can help, but for a natural way to reduce hair loss, try drinking two to three cups of green tea every day. Green tea contains catechins, which may block or lessen the effects of dihydrotestosterone or DTH on the body. DTH is a male hormone that causes male pattern hair loss. Moreover, the caffeine in green tea may help to stimulate hair growth; so apart from drinking tea, use cooled green tea as a rinse to help you have thicker and fuller hair.
Green tea is not just a superfood that’s good for the body, it’s also one of the best beverages to keep your hair strong and healthy. Drink at least two cups of green tea everyday, or use it as a rinse at least twice a week for best results. For severe hair and scalp problems, consult a trained specialist or a dermatologist.
