A new store has sprouted in town this month. On Earth Day 2011, Alfalfa’s Market reopened in its hallmark location in downtown Boulder. As it was when it opened over 30 years ago, Alfalfa’s mission is to offer natural, high-end products to the community. They are committed to supporting the Boulder community by stocking fresh foods from local vendors in their 20,000-square-foot store and café. The new and vastly expanded Alfalfa’s looks like the ultimate epicurean market. As much of a novelty as it was back in 1979 when it offered all-natural health foods, the remodeled 2011 market brings the natural and organic shopping experience to a whole new level.
If you can imagine wandering through a euro-inspired modern architectural marvel of a farmer’s market, you’re getting close to what a tour through the new Alfalfa’s is like. The store boasts about 20 different olive oils available in bulk, salts from all around the globe (including some varieties that will be exclusive to this market), a huge wall full of raw food options, a large charcuterie section, local produce, a mod-looking bulk juice bar, and an organic wine, beer, and spirits boutique.
The Tea Spot will also be on the shelves, in bulk bins and in the café, representing Boulder’s locals. Alfalfa’s will carry The Tea Spot’s loose-leaf teas in bulk – more than any other retailer in the country. Boulderites will have access to their favorites – such as Climber’s High, Coconut Milky Oolong, and Blood Orange Smoothie. The bulk tea selection will also include The Tea Spot’s bestsellers Bolder Breakfast, Meditative Mind, and Boulder Blues, as well as nine single-estate organic loose-leaf teas. In addition to the extensive bulk leaf tea selection, The Tea Spot’s retail tea tins will be stocked as part of Alfalfa’s packaged tea selection. So if you come by for a visit, you can get freshly steeped loose-leaf tea to go.
