After hearing people rave about puerh tea, I finally decided to try it for myself.  I brewed a cup at my desk in the middle of studying for midterms.  I thought it would calm me down to write about my first experience with puerh.  Plus, it seemed like an appropriate time to drink a cup of tea in the midst of reading about cardiovascular disease and the physiology of our bodies.

The puerh tea I consumed was Numi tea.  I am infatuated with all Numi teas, so I thought it would be a good choice for my first puerh.  This one is a mixture of organic puerh tea, organic cocoa powder, organic vanilla beans, organic roobios, organic orange peel, organic nutmeg, and organic cinnamon.  Is anyone’s mouth watering yet?

Numi tea makes their Chocolate Puerh with 500-year-old organic, wild-harvested tea leaves that are ripened and fermented into black tea.  The fermentation process actually heightens the benefits of the nutrients in the tea, so you can feel really good about drinking this healthy cup of goodness.  Puerh comes from China, where they consume it for its outstanding medicinal benefits.  Studies have shown that puerh lowers cholesterol, aids digestion and weight loss, and offers blood-cleansing properties.  No wonder puerh tea is such a huge hit!

Brewing this tea was the absolute highlight of my night.  The aroma was very strong and chocolaty.  The scent filled up the room and I could almost taste it before I did.  As I took my first sip, I was delighted with the strong and delicious flavor.  It genuinely tasted the same as it smelled.  It was very smooth and made me feel very positive as the warm tea glided down my throat.  It was absolutely delicious!

I read a few websites where they suggested drinking a cup of puerh at every meal because it aids in digestion and some websites showed it helped with weight loss.  They said to try it for 30 days and see how you feel.  Does anyone want to take this challenge and participate in trying it for 30 days?  I am going to buy some non-chocolate puerh and drink some at every meal.  I will let you wonderful T Ching readers know how I feel after the 30 days!  Also, if anyone has a favorite brand or place to buy puerh tea, I would love to know!
