Recreational paradise! You can hike to the top of a mountain; or to the base of a gorgeous waterfall. Or, you could ride your mountain bike on one of the most technical – and fun – trails in the state. White water rafting more your cup of tea? You’ve come to the right place! Hmmm, you’re more in the mood for kite-boarding, water-skiing, jet-skiing or wind-surfing? Travel no further. If you really want to snow ski, we have year-round skiing on Mt. Hood. And there’s rock climbing, fishing, birdwatching, spelunking, berry picking . . .
And when you’re tired of that, or want something a bit lower key: we have three bookstores; a slew of restaurants representing many ethnicities; a couple of brew pubs; wine-tasting rooms in the upper and lower valley; a museum; a railroad ride; and lots of shopping if your Visa card is singing away in your wallet, “Use me.”
Welcome to the Columbia River Gorge, inspiring awe eons before Lewis and Clark!
The must do destination? No matter what your form of gorge recreation . . . that would be Doppio, handily located at 310 Oak Street, in the middle of downtown Hood River. You can get coffee, gelato, scrumptious sandwiches and WHOLE LEAF TEA, by the pot. Your pot comes filled with water heated to just the right temperature; a generous portion of tea; two classy tea cups; and a handy dish for the strainer. The teas? Only the best, from T Ching. You can drink your tea indoors or out, enjoying the diversity of Hood River’s visiting population. Stay for at least three steepings!
